Lucio is not only an accomplished coffee farmer, but is also a leader in his community and of the San Ignacio cooperative. He was born in the town of Pasuja Pampa in the highlands of La Paz (the Altiplano), and migrated to the village of San Ignacio in the province of Caranavi in 1985, at the age of 20. He now has seven children.
We got to know Lucio through our special relationship with the San Ignacio cooperative and community. We are committed to purchasing the best coffees from the Community, and pay a premium based on quality. The higher the cupping score, the higher our premium. We have multi-year contracts with their producers.
Lucio is a past president of the San Ignacio Cooperative, and he now dedicates most of his time to tending his farm. Due to Invalsa's encouragement, he participated in the last two Bolivia Cup of Excellence competitions, and came very close to qualifying for the international auction. 2020 is the twelfth year that we have purchased all of Lucio's microlot-quality coffee production.
